Fecal Transplants

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT), also known as human probiotic infusion, bacteriotherapy, and fecal transplant, is a powerful infusion of healthy colon flora which has been used to treat C difficile infections, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and other conditions.

An extract of healthy bacteria from the stool of an extensively screened donor is suspended in solution and delivered to the patient via enema, which is then retained for 4-6 hours, or it is further refined and encapsulated. Other clinics and hospitals may offer FMT via nasogastric tube or colonoscope.

We offer FMT via retention enema and via encapsulation. Currently, the FDA allows FMT to be given for antibiotic resistant C difficile infections (CDI), and so we are only able to use this therapy for people with CDI. FMT appears to be over 90% effective at treating refractory (antibiotic resistant) C difficile infections.
