I am a licensed naturopathic physician offering holistic, microbiome-centered care in Portland, Oregon. I have been working intensively with microbiome medicine since 2013.

In January 2014, I founded Microbiomes, LLC to create better fecal microbiota transplants for the critically ill, delivering our first encapsulated FMT in March of 2014, and hundreds since.

I originated a protocol for producing fecal microbiota transplant capsules, allowing the delivery of a powerful human probiotic directly to your large intestine in a simple, non-invasive outpatient procedure. Since beginning this treatment, I have cured dozens and dozens of highly resistant Clostridium difficile cases.

I am one of the only doctors in the country to maintain a pre-screened donor bank, with donors rigorously screened, free from infectious and chronic disease.

What is a Fecal
Microbiota Transplant?

The best way to think about FMT is as a SUPER probiotic. In FMT, the "good" bacteria comes from the fecal material of a healthy donor, processed and delivered to restore your gut.

This material is processed to allow the good bacteria and their byproducts to be delivered to an unhealthy person's GI tract via capsules, colonoscopy, enema, or nasogastric tube.

FMT — also known as human probiotic infusion and bacteriotherapy — is a powerful infusion of healthy colon flora used to treat C. difficile infections, inflammatory bowel disease, and other conditions.

FMT appears to be approximately 90% effective with a single treatment for refractory C. difficile infections.

Our Innovation

FMT Capsules

We were the first treatment center in the US to offer FMT capsules to the public.

We developed an encapsulation protocol following the pioneering work of Dr. Thomas Louie. Using pre-screened stool from our donor bank or a donor you have selected, we concentrate the bacteria using a centrifuge protocol to remove fiber and waste and then add a cryoprotectant to help preserve the maximum amount of viable organisms. The final product is then triple encapsulated to help ensure delivery to the large intestine.

Baseline requirements:

  • No or very limited antibiotic use
  • Born vaginally
  • Breastfed
